Rebecca Herman and Mark Shoffner, USS Clyfford Still, 2011

|
The USS Clyfford Still is a marine transport ship of abstraction, in which each seaman would embody American achievements in Abstract Expressionism, bringing the art form to people across the globe. The work was created for the Institute for Wishful Thinking, as a proposed artists’ residency with the US government.

This is the uniform design for the Marine troops aboard the USS Clyfford Still. As a unit, the troops would become an invasion of art: part military intervention and part Abstract Expressionist painting.
